In a nutshell:
1. Eat better
Eating 3 meals a day isn’t enough.
Eat healthy snacks during the time between meals.
Focus on carbs and proteins when deciding what to eat.
Carbs give you energy and proteins help you gain muscle.
The amino acids from the proteins are broken down and sent directly to your muscles to help them grow.
The best foods for muscle gaining are chicken, turkey, steak, rice, pasta, oats, nuts, milk, eggs, and fish. So, make sure you are eating these!
If your body runs out of energy anytime during the day or night it’s going to start breaking down your hard earned muscles to compensate.
2. Focus on compound exercises
Instead of getting into the gym and just hopping onto all that fancy equipment, you should focus on doing compound exercises instead of ones that focus on individual muscle groups.
Compound exercises if you don’t know are exercises that target more than one muscle group at the same time.
This is great when you’re starting out and need to focus on your entire body.
Compound exercises include squats, deadlifts, bench presses, and overhead presses.
This helps your entire body grow in a more balanced way instead of just a few specific muscle groups being super refined while the others are being barely used at all.
If you’re under the impression that working out grows your muscles let me clear up that confusion.
Technically speaking working out just damages your muscles and it’s actually the rest and repair that allows them grow.
Your muscles aren’t going to grow if you don’t give them adequate rest and without that your gains are going to be extremely slow.
Give each muscle group that you work on at least 48 hours of rest after you’re done.
