How Is the Healthcare System Failing Black Women?

Black women are 3 to 4 times more likely to experience pregnancy-related deaths than white women, but they are not being heard. “Even women with all the resources in the world — Serena Williams, Beyoncé, Allyson Felix — who had issues around pregnancy and childbirth were not listened to,” says Patrice Harris, MD, Everyday Health’s medical editor in chief at large, as she discusses how to ensure that women’s complaints are taken seriously.
